Washington moved to No. 4 in this week's rankings following Texas A&M's loss to Mississippi State last weekend. The 9-0 Huskies have played the weakest schedule of the Power 5 unbeatens to this point (67th overall), but only Alabama has a better Game Control rating in the FBS. ESPN's College GameDay will be in Seattle on Saturday when Washington hosts No. 20 USC.

Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze said he hasn't yet decided whether or not to play true freshman QB Shea Patterson. The Rebels were planning on redshirting him until Chad Kelly got hurt, opening the door for them to possibly play him if Jason Pellerin -- the likely starter on Saturday for Ole Miss -- were to get hurt. The Rebels' QB options are limited without Kelly, who is out for the rest of the season.

Vanderbilt coach Derek Mason on LB Zach Cunningham: "He's the best defensive player in the SEC. He's an All-American, no ifs, ands or buts about it."

Florida coach Jim McElwain announces that Austin Appleby will start this weekend at QB for the Gators against South Carolina. True freshman Feleipe Franks has been getting the most reps behind Appleby and could also play this weekend as well, but that hasn't been determined yet. "We're not afraid at any point of playing him. ... As we move forward we need a spark (on offense." McElwain added that Franks' upside "is huge."

Syracuse coach Dino Babers says quarterback Eric Dungey is still undergoing testing and would release his playing status on the school's injury report Thursday. Dungey was knocked out against Clemson after taking a hit to the head. "We're waiting for the tests to come back and that's going to clear up what our opportunities with or without him are going to be," Babers said.

Georgia coach Kirby Smart says that the thing that sticks out about how difficult Auburn's run game has been to stop is pace-of-play and the physical nature of RB Kamyrn Pettway, who might not play this weekend because of injury. Smart said tempo has also helped exposed defenses and worn them down over the last few weeks. Auburn leads the SEC with 299.8 rush YPG this season. --

Western Michigan rallies to stay unbeaten

No. 21 Western Michigan overcame a 14-0 deficit to improve to 10-0 on the season with a 37-21 victory over Kent State.

The biggest fall in this week's College Football Playoff rankings comes from Florida. The Gators, ranked No. 11 last week, dropped out of the rankings altogether after a loss to Arkansas. The SEC East is now the only division in a Power Five conference without a team in the Top 25.

CFP committee chair Kirby Hocutt says that No. 1 Alabama is held in very high regard by the committee. That's why Texas A&M was ranked ahead of Washington last week -- the Aggies' one loss at the time came to the Crimson Tide. Ohio State's loss to Penn State, Hocutt says, is less impressive, so the Huskies got the No. 4 nod.
