Who We Are: HPC Centers

The mission of HPC Centers is the delivery of world-class high performance computational capabilities to the DoD science and technology (S&T) and test and evaluation (T&E) communities. Located at five DoD Supercomputing Resource Centers (DSRCs), these capabilities provide DoD scientists and engineers with the resources necessary to efficiently solve the most demanding computational problems. The HPC Centers are a part of the Department of Defense (DoD) High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP).

Each center hosts a robust complement of HPC capabilities that include large scale HPC systems, high-speed networks, multi-petabyte archival mass storage systems, and computational expertise. These centers are supported by counterpart data analysis and customer assistance services to maximize the HPCMP user's experience on those resources.

Collectively the centers:

  • Support some of the world's largest computational projects.
  • Deliver an aggregate of 2.5 billion processor hours of computing power per year and over 5 PetaFLOPS of computing capability via numerous HPC systems (supercomputers).
  • Maintain mass storage archives with an aggregate storage capability in excess of 50 PetaBytes.
  • Connect users to HPC systems via high-speed networks at speeds up to 10 gigabits/sec.

Open Research Systems (ORS) are provided for computationally based science and engineering in support of the DoD. These systems operate entirely at the Unclassified level, with neither sensitive nor classified data or applications. More information can be found on the ORS Web Site.

Scientific visualization and data analysis are provided by the Data Analysis and Assessment Center (DAAC). More information can be found on the DAAC Web Site.

Technical support for our customers is provided by the HPC Help Desk. To contact the HPC Help Desk, please see our HPC Help Desk page.

The HPCMP's work is also supported by Affiliated Resource Centers (ARCs). These entities are comprised of DoD Laboratories and Test Centers that acquire and manage HPC resources as part of their local infrastructure, but share these resources with the broader HPCMP user community.
