Captain Gene J. Doyle

CAPT Gene Doyle was commissioned through Officer Candidate School after graduating from Montana State University in 1989 with a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
CAPT Doyle’s initial sea tours include Division Officer in USS BIRMINGHAM (SSN 695), Engineer Officer in USS HENRY M. JACKSON (SSBN 730), and Executive Officer in USS SPRINGFIELD (SSN 761). CAPT Doyle commanded USS ALEXANDRIA from 2008 to 2011, where he completed two overseas deployments. His crew earned the Battle Efficiency “E” awards in 2008 and 2010.
Ashore, CAPT Doyle served as an Operations Analyst at Headquarters, Navy Recruiting Command; as Squadron Material Officer for Submarine Squadron 17; and on the Joint Staff, J5. During his shore assignments, he earned master’s degrees in Engineering Management and National Security Studies. Following command of ALEXANDRIA, CAPT Doyle served as Deputy Commander, Submarine Development Squadron 12; Special Assistant for Fleet Matters to Naval Reactors; and Commander, Submarine Squadron 11. CAPT Doyle reported in March 2016 as Chief of Staff for Commander, Submarine Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet.
CAPT Doyle is authorized to wear the Legion of Merit (three awards), the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), as well as many unit and campaign awards.
