Major Terry is form Port Arthur, Texas and enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1993.  He attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego where he graduated as Honor Man. He received appointment to the US Naval Academy in 1996 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Oceanography as a member of the Class of 2000.

Following the Basic School, Major Terry graduated with honors from Air Traffic Control School and reported to Marine Air Control Squadron - 1, Detachment C in Yuma, Arizona where he served an ATC Crew Officer.  After attending Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron (MAWTS) – 1, Weapons and Tactics Instruction (WTI) Fall Course 2002, he deployed with the 13th MEU(SOC) in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as a Marine Mobile Air Traffic Control Team Leader.  During this time, he supported MEU operations from Basra International Airport, Iraq and Al Hamra, United Arab Emirates.

In 2004, Major Terry reported to flight training in Pensacola, Florida.  Following qualification as a CH-46E pilot, Major Terry was assigned to HMM-265 (REIN) in Okinawa, Japan.  This tour included five deployments with the 31st MEU in support of Korean Incremental Training Program (KITP) 07/08, Philippine Bilateral Exercise (PHIBLEX) 08/09, and Humanitarian Aid / Disaster Relief following cyclones Ketsana and Parma in 2009.  His designations and qualifications include Air Mission Commander, Assault Flight Lead, Night Systems Instructor, and assistant NATOPS Instructor.

Following Okinawa, Major Terry commenced studies at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California in 2010, graduating in June 2012 with a Masters of Science (MS) in Operations Analysis.

From July 2012 to May 2015, Major Terry served as staff operations research analyst with Manpower and Reserve Affairs and Combat Development and Integration, Headquarters Marine Corps, supporting deployed forces in Regional Command Southwest, Helmand Province Afghanistan, Combined Joint Task Force Horn of Africa, Djibouti, and Marine Corps Forces Central Command Forward (MARCENT FWD) in Bahrain and Kuwait. Major Terry led the establishment of the operations research cell forward to support both the MARCENT FWD staff and the Special Purpose MAGTF Central Command, Crisis Response.

On 19 June 2015 Major Terry reported to Marine Transport Squadron One to assume duties as Executive Officer.

In May 2016 Major Terry reported to MCAS Cherry Point Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron to assume duties as Executive Officer.
