SgtMaj Orellano enlisted in the Marine Corps on 9 May 1988, and underwent recruit training at MCRD, San Diego, CA. Upon graduation he attended his Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) training at Naval Air Training school, Millington, TN, Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS), Camp Pendleton, CA and MCAS, Cherry Point, NC and attained the MOS 6531, Aviation Ordnance Technician. From 1989 to 1992, he was assigned to Marine Observation Squadron One (VMO-1) MCAS, New River, NC. During this time he participated in numerous deployments to include drug interdiction missions with Customs and the Coast Guard; and deploying in support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm.
In October of 1992, Sgt Orellano received orders to Marine Security Guard (MSG) School in Quantico, VA and graduated MSG Class 1-93. Sgt Orellano served as a Watch-Stander with the Marine Security Guard Detachments (MSGDETS) at the American Embassies in Montevideo Uruguay, Yaounde Cameroon and Tokyo, Japan.
In January 1996, following a successful tour on MSG duty, he was assigned to Marine Helicopter Training Squadron 303 (HMT-303), MAG-39. In July of 1997, he was reassigned to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 369 (HMLA-369), MAG-39. During his time there he held the billets of Ordnance Work Center Supervisor and Quality Assurance Representative. He participated in numerous deployments to include two Unit Deployment Programs (UDPs) to Okinawa, Japan.
In March 2001, he volunteered and received orders to MSG School as a student Detachment Commander. After graduating MSG Class 3-01, he was assigned as the Detachment Commander for the MSGDETS at the American Embassies in Bamako, Mali, Mexico City, Mexico and the US Tri-Missions to Brussels, Belgium.
Following a successful tour as a Detachment Commander and his selection to 1stSgt, he received orders to 2d Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment. During his tour there, he deployed with Battalion Landing Team (BLT) 2/1 while assigned to the 13th MEU and subsequently participated in combat operations in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) 4-06 in the Al Anbar Province, Iraq. From January 2007 to January 2008 he deployed once again with BLT 2/1 for a UDP to Okinawa, Japan with assignment to the 31st MEU.
In 2008, he received orders to the School of Infantry West. He was assigned as the 1stSgt to activate Kilo Company, MCTBN and in January 2009, he was reassigned as the 1stSgt to activate the Combat Instructor School.
In February of 2010, he received orders to 2d Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment. He was assigned as the Headquarters and Service Company 1stSgt and in June 2010 deployed with the battalion to Marjah, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) 10-2.
In February 2011, SgtMaj Orellano received orders to Combat Logistics Battalion 6 to serve as the SgtMaj and deployed again to Afghanistan in support of OEF 11-2.
In February 2012, SgtMaj Orellano received orders to Recruiting Station Los Angeles, CA, 12th Marine Corps District. He was assigned as the Recruiting Station SgtMaj.
In July 2014, SgtMaj Orellano received orders to 3d Radio Battalion and is assigned as the Battalion SgtMaj.
SgtMaj Orellano holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice and Administration with emphasis in Criminal Law and a Certification in Terrorism and Homeland Security from Park University. He is also a graduate of the Navy Senior Enlisted Academy, Newport, RI.
SgtMaj Orellano personal decorations and awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (gold stars in lieu of third award), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (gold Star in lieu of second award), the Combat Action Ribbon, the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal (8th award), a Thank You letter from the President of the United States (POTUS) and numerous Letter of Appreciation and Certificate of Appreciation from the U.S. Ambassadors.
