WELCOME TO MARINE CORPS DETACHMENT FORT LEE

Marine Detachment (MarDet) Fort Lee, VA was established in 1983. Its mission is to develop, support, manage and provide resident, entry, intermediate and career individual-skill level, standards-based training. The MarDet Fort Lee organizational structure includes a headquarters section and two companies.

MarDet Fort Lee is responsible for training entry-level enlisted Marines in the following 11 MOSs: Personnel Retrieval and Processing (PRP) Specialist (0471), Airborne and Air Delivery Specialist (0451), Bulk Fuel Specialist (1391), Food Service Specialist (3381), Small Arms Repairer Technician (2111), Towed Artillery Systems Technician (2131), Light Armored Vehicle Repairer/Technician (2147), Electro-Optical Ordnance Repairer (2171), Ammunition Technician (2311), Welders (1316) and Metal Worker (2161).

MarDet Fort Lee is also responsible for training officers in the following eight MOSs: Mortuary Affairs Officer (0407), Air Delivery Officer (0405), Bulk Fuel Officer (1390), Food Service Officer (3302), Ordnance Vehicle Maintenance Officer (2110), Weapons Repair Officer (2120), Electro-Optic Instrument Repair Officer (2125) and Ammunition Officer (2340). Additionally, Marine Officers attend the U.S. Army Logistics Captains Career Course (LC3) at the Army Logistics University.  

MarDet Fort Lee maintains a staff of approximately 180 Marines and has an annual throughput of nearly 2,500 students. Importantly, the MarDet mission includes acting as a proponent for specified Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) communities in order to support operating force manpower requirements.

In addition to training Marines, the Detachment is responsible for maintaining Joint, USMC, and multi-service doctrine and supporting Marine Corps Systems Command on new and modified equipment
