Pennsylvania Incident Management Team
In
early 2004, Pennsylvania was approached by the US Fire Administration and asked
to start the first statewide state sponsored All-Hazard Incident Management
Team (IMT). Team members were recruited from nine different state agencies
based on the emergency service background and experience. After meeting basic
incident command requirements, the Team members participated in a seven day
training to qualify them for deployment on major emergencies and disasters
within Pennsylvania. This was the beginning of the all-hazard IMT known as the
PA-IMT. Team members have continued to prepare themselves for deployment by completing position specific training. Various team members have completed specific courses in each of the eight Command & General Staff positions plus some of the Unit Leader positions. Some team members have also completed field training opportunities at national disasters and special events. Team members that have completed their position specific training are now working on completing their Position Task Books in order to become “qualified” in their assigned position.
The mission of the Pennsylvania All-Hazard Incident Management Team (PA-IMT) is to provide personnel who are trained as incident management specialists and organized to support emergency response and recovery efforts or planned special event operations within the Commonwealth. The PA-IMT will accomplish this by providing the framework necessary to establish an Incident Command or Unified Command System as required by the National Incident Management System (NIMS) at declared major emergencies, declared disasters, and planned special events.
The PA-IMT will accomplish these taskings by being;
- Multi-Disciplined.
- Rapidly Deployable.
- Field Operation Sustainable.
- Knowledgeable in NIMS Incident Command Systems, Emergency Management, and Disaster Field Operations.
- Knowledgeable of the Commonwealth process for emergency management.
- Knowledgeable in intelligence collection and analysis distribution.
