New Jersey Sandy Recovery

The New Jersey Sandy Recovery Field Office (NJ-SRFO) was established to support long-term recovery efforts in New Jersey following the devastation of Hurricane Sandy.

In the days following the storm, New Jersey established a Joint Field Office in Eatontown, N.J. In January, 2014, the JFO transitioned to the New Jersey Sandy Recovery Field Office focused on long-term recovery for residents and communities throughout the state.

The New Jersey Sandy Recovery Field Office coordinates the efforts of multiple federal agencies, providing support to the state’s residents and communities as they rebuild and become more resilient.

The Hurricane Sandy Rebuilding Strategy, issued in August 2013 by the President’s Hurricane Sandy Rebuilding Task Force, mandated that federal agencies work collaboratively across all levels of government and the private sector to advance the recovery and assist the state in rebuilding better, safer and stronger

Working in support of the state Office of Emergency Management and the Governor’s Office for Sandy Recovery, FEMA is continuing its commitment to assisting the citizens of New Jersey in recovering from the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy and rebuilding with strength and resiliency.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency began deploying personnel and resources to help residents of New Jersey respond to, recover from and mitigate all hazards associated with Hurricane Sandy a few days before the storm made landfall on October 29, 2012.

The task of recovery is huge and the challenges are many. But more than 18 months after the storm, FEMA remains fully committed to the work of rebuilding, restoring and recovering.

Working in partnership with the state, FEMA has helped to fund thousands of community projects necessary to restore the quality of life that New Jerseyans enjoyed before the storm.

FEMA’s Mitigation Specialists and Long Term Recovery experts are working to assist residents and communities rebuild smarter, safer and stronger, ensuring that, should another storm as powerful as Sandy strike, the state will be much less vulnerable, and much more likely to recover quickly.

Through the NJ Sandy Recovery Office, FEMA will continue providing the state of New Jersey with the resources it needs to recover and rebuild, remaining an active part of the recovery effort until our work here is done.
