Datacasting at the Final Four 2016

Watch how the datacasting technology helped first responders in Houston, Texas!

The Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate’s First Responders Group (FRG) works diligently to ensure first responders have innovative tools and technologies to better protect our nation. One of these efforts is datacasting, a way to transmit encrypted live video and data over existing broadcast television signals to a targeted audience within public safety, improving data sharing and interoperability at minimal cost and effort. This game-changing datacasting system was successfully used by the City of Houston to securely share information between different responding agencies during the NCAA Men’s Final Four Basketball Tournament April 1-4, 2016. This video highlights how Houston’s first responders use this tool to enhance their public safety communications.
