Special Operations Detachment (SOD) South
Page Content
The Special Operations Detachment South (SOD-S) is a very unique unit, since it has a Title 32 state mission and a Title 10 federal mission. The Mississippi National Guard detachment has state authority under the 66th Troop Command in Jackson, Mississippi, but is controlled by the Special Operations Command South (SOCSOUTH). The United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) is the higher affiliation under the Department of Defense that directly controls both SOCSOUTH and the National Guard SOD-S.
The SOD-S detachment soldiers have a tough and demanding mission, which requires mature, disciplined, self-motivated soldiers with great initiative. The detachment is comprised of a wide range of skill sets and focuses training in their respective staff functions and as well as a command and control element for a Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force or a Theatre Special Operations Command (TSOC).
