Project detail
Roadmap/Focus area(s):   Infrastructure Research and Technology Strategic Plan and Roadmap
Project Description:   The research will focus on the design, development, and validation of a revolutionary suite of wireless, multipurpose sensors developed for the health monitoring of transportation infrastructures. The sensors will be designed to be rugged, easy to install, maintenance-free, low-cost, and have a service life exceeding 30 years. The multimodal nature of the sensing system will allow the simultaneous measurement of miscellaneous quantities (such as strain, acceleration, tilt, temperature, and humidity) with sensitivity and accuracy comparable to state-of-the-art wired sensors.
Goals:   To develop a multifunction sensor system that accurately quantifies deformation, acceleration, and crack opening, and provides environmental information, such as humidity and temperature, that will affect the management of the United States bridge network system.
