Roadmap/Focus area(s): | Infrastructure Research and Technology Strategic Plan and Roadmap
Project Description: | This project will look into the development and testing of optimal connection details for use in facilitating the use of modular prefabricated concrete components in bridge construction. This project steps toward that goal by providing a baseline set of data on commercially available grouts, some of which are already used for Prefabricated Bridge Elements and Systems (PBES) connections.
Goals: | The key project objective is to evaluate the critical mechanical properties of prebagged grout materials, which may be used in field-cast applications connecting Prefabricated Bridge Elements and Systems (PBES) components. This research will provide a baseline from which future grout performance expectations can be developed.
Product Type: | Research report Techbrief Technical report
Test Methodology: | Complete standardized and modified material tests to assess basic mechanical properties, such as compressive strength, shrinkage, and bondability.
Expected Benefits: | This study will provide a baseline understanding of the range of performances that may be expected from field-cast construction grouts used in prefabricated bridge element construction.
