Project detail
Project Description:   Radar traffic sensors for detection of motorcycles and trucks are not sufficiently accurate. This project will improve the count, speed, and classification accuracy of SmartSensor HDTM by using Wavetronix's recently developed multibeam technology. This project only provides classification by length and not by signature. This Small Business Innovative Research will result in a nonintrusive detector that will have speed accuracy of roughly two miles per hour and vehicle length measurement within three feet. This improved detector will serve travel surveys and traffic control systems.
Goals:   The objective is to achieve improved detection of vehicle length with existing radar frequencies and power.
Partners:   U.S. Department of Transportation: Research and Innovative Technology Administration (RITA); Role(s): Other stakeholder
Project Findings:   This is possible with enhanced antennas and digital signal processing.
