At the direction of President Barack Obama and U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Jeh Johnson, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Administrator Craig Fugate is leading the Unified Coordination Group responsible for addressing the needs of an influx of unaccompanied children creating a humanitarian challenge along the southwest U.S. border.

This morning, Acting Secretary Beers visited McAllen, Texas to inspect border security operations, meet with U.S. Customs and Border Protection and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement employees in the region, and receive briefings on the Administration’s efforts in securing the nation’s border and combating narcotics and weapons smuggling, while facilitating lawful travel and trade.
On Sept. 19-20, Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Rand Beers will travel to Texas and Mexico.
