U.S.-Mexico Aviation Agreement a Win for Travelers, Trade

The United States and Mexico have a strong, longstanding relationship when it comes to aviation.  And I’m happy to announce that after over two years of negotiations, our two nations are on the threshold of entering a new era in this important relationship.

Today, I was proud to join Mexico’s Secretary of Communications and Transport Ruiz Esparza, Undersecretary Mascott, colleagues from the U.S. Departments of State and Commerce, and aviation stakeholders from Mexico and the United States to sign a new, modern air transport agreement between the United States and Mexico.

October 2015 Driving Sets New Record, New Federal Data Show

WASHINGTON – New data released today by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (USDOT) Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) show that U.S. driving reached 273.5 billion miles in October 2015, the highest of any October on record, and more than 2.63 trillion miles so far this year. The new data, published in FHWA’s latest “Traffic Volume Trends” report – a monthly estimate of U.S. road travel – illustrate the growing demands facing the nation’s road system.

Electronic Logging Devices to be Required Across Commercial Truck and Bus Industries

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) today announced the adoption of a Final Rule that will improve roadway safety by employing technology to strengthen commercial truck and bus drivers’ compliance with hours-of-service regulations that prevent fatigue.

U.S. DOT Imposes Civil Penalty on Harbor Freight Tools For Failure To Recall Trailer Kits

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has imposed a $1 million civil penalty on Harbor Freight Tools, an equipment importer, for failing to issue a timely recall of more than 800,000 after-market trailer light kits that violate Federal safety standards.
