A few years ago, you may remember that my predecessor, Ray LaHood spoke to this group. And, as I understand it, he was so carried away by your enthusiasm that he actually jumped up on top of a table to deliver his speech.

This is actually something of a historic moment for rail. It was 150 years ago this month when the railroad ties began piling up in Sacramento, California and work began to ramp up on the Central Pacific.

It’s an honor to be here with all of you. And it’s amazing to me that this club is almost as old as aviation itself – although I have to imagine your meetings were a bit different back when you were founded in 1909.
