I-635 LBJ Freeway Proposed Project
Garland, Texas • April 18, 2014

Thank you to TxDOT commissioner, Jeff Austin – and to John Barton and Garland Mayor Doug Athas for giving me a big Texas welcome.

It’s great to be in Garland, and in the Centerville Marketplace.  Because you always want to begin these speeches with a good story – and this place has a good story.

Remarks to the League of American Bicyclists

Washington, DC • March 4, 2014

Remarks as prepared for delivery

Good afternoon, everybody! It’s great to be with you.

And how about we give a big hand again to Andy Clark? Thank you, Andy for that introduction.

A few years ago, you may remember that my predecessor, Ray LaHood spoke to this group. And, as I understand it, he was so carried away by your enthusiasm that he actually jumped up on top of a table to deliver his speech.

Remarks as prepared for delivery

Hello, St. Paul.

It’s great to be with you this afternoon – and it’s a privilege to warm up the stage for our President, Barack Obama!

This is a beautiful building – and one more reason that St. Paul is such a unique city.

Washington, DC • February 25, 2014

Remarks as prepared for delivery

Thank you, Andy Kunz, for the introduction.

And thanks, everyone, for the chance to speak a little bit about what our Department is doing for high-performance rail.

This is actually something of a historic moment for rail. It was 150 years ago this month when the railroad ties began piling up in Sacramento, California and work began to ramp up on the Central Pacific.

Remarks as prepared for delivery

Thank you, Pete Dumont for the introduction – and thanks, everyone, for the warm welcome to the Aero Club.

It’s an honor to be here with all of you. And it’s amazing to me that this club is almost as old as aviation itself – although I have to imagine your meetings were a bit different back when you were founded in 1909.

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

Thank you Congresswoman Sewell for the introduction – and to Bishop Davis and Pastor Leodis Strong, my thanks, as well, for welcoming me to the Ninth Episcopal District and to Brown Chapel AME Church.

It’s good to see so many elected officials in the seats today.

“Remarks as prepared for delivery”

Thanks very much, Janet Kavinoky for the introduction.

I came to Washington after serving as a mayor.

Just about every mayor in America can tell a story about a business considering locating in his or her city, with hundreds, sometimes thousands of jobs in the balance.
