The directorate generates advanced technology capabilities through acquisition and development programs and ensures that efficient and effective purchasing agreements are in place. In part, this is accomplished through partnership with industry to acquire and develop radiological and nuclear detection systems as part of the Commercial First Initiative, which focuses on acquiring Commercial Off The Shelf systems and leveraging private sector development of nuclear detection systems and solutions that meet government requirements. For existing systems, the directorate continues to monitor systems performance to ensure continued field capability and provide feedback for future improvements.
