Sergeant Major, 1st Battalion, 23rd Marines Sergeant Major Rocco C. DeCamillo

Sergeant Major DeCamillo was born and raised in Reading, PA.  Upon graduation from the Wyomissing Area High School in 1992 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserve.  Private DeCamillo reported to Battery I, 3rd Battalion, 14th Marines, located in Reading, PA where he served as a cannon crewman.  Corporal DeCamillo was meritoriously promoted in 1994 and assumed the duties of howitzer section chief at Battery I.   

Sergeant DeCamillo was promoted in 1998 and deployed with Battery I in support of NATO exercise Strong Resolve conducted in Norway where he continued to serve as a howitzer section chief.  During October 1998 he completed the Range Coach’s Course at Marine Corps Base Quantico.  In 1999 he assumed the duties of Guns Platoon Sergeant with Battery I and was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in 2001. 

During 2001 Staff Sergeant DeCamillo assumed the duties of Battery Gunnery Sergeant with Battery “I.”  He deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in June 2005 with the USMC Military Transition Teams (MTT) where he served as a Company Advisor with the 2nd Company, 3rd Battalion, 2nd brigade, 1st Division of the newly formed Iraqi Army.  He participated in combat operations in the Habbinayah and Ar Ramadi areas until March 2006. 

Gunnery Sergeant DeCamillo was promoted in June 2006 and deployed back to Iraq in September 2006 with the USMC Police Transition Teams (PTT).  He served as the Operations Chief with PTT “Delta” who trained and supervised 1,400 Iraqi Police Officer’s in the Al Qa’im District in the Western Al Anbar Province.  He participated in combat operations in the Al Qa’im area until March 2007. 

Gunnery Sergeant DeCamillo returned as the Battery Gunnery Sergeant with Battery I in March 2007.  In June 2008 he transferred to Battery G, 3rd Battalion, 14th Marines, located in West Trenton, NJ and served as the Battery Gunnery Sergeant and later as the First Sergeant and as the acting Executive Officer.   

First Sergeant DeCamillo was promoted in June 2010 and received orders to Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 25th Marines located in Londonderry, NH in July 2010 where he serves as the Company First Sergeant.  Company “B” mobilized under Presidential recall orders in support of Operation Enduring Freedom on 1 May 2011 and deployed to the Nimruz Province, Afghanistan from August 2011 – January 2012.  They conducted partnered security and stability operations with combat troops from the Royal Jordanian Army during their deployment. 

Sergeant Major DeCamillo was promoted to his current rank during May 2014 and received orders to 1st Battalion. 23rd Marines located in Houston, TX and assumed the duties as the Battalion Sergeant Major during November 2014.  

His civilian education includes an Associate of Applied Science degree for Law Enforcement Administration.  He completed the City of Reading Police Academy in 1994 and is currently employed by the Exeter Township Police Department.   

His personal decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Navy & Marine Corps Commendation Medal W/ three Gold Stars in lieu of four awards, Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and the Military Outstanding Volunteers Service Medal.
