Indiana Court of Appeals

NEW! Court of Appeals Holds Oral Argument in Edward Rose of Indiana, LLC v. Metropolitan Board of Zoning Appeals - Franklin
Press Release | 05.07.2009

The Court of Appeals is an intermediate appellate court and Indiana’s second-highest court. The Court has 15 Judges who hear appeals from the state’s trial courts. They review matters of the law from the trial court record and usually answer a specific legal question or questions raised in the initial trial or by the trial court’s decision.

The Court of Appeals must accept and provide a written opinion for all appeals sent to it, which is approximately 2,500 each year. A decision of the Indiana Court of Appeals is final unless granted further review by the Indiana Supreme Court. The majority of appeals filed in Indiana are decided by the Court of Appeals. All opinions are available on the Court's website.
