Enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on February 23, 1987. Reported for boot camp at MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina on February 24, 1987, graduated from boot camp in May as the 3rd Battalion, H Company Honor Man and was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal. Attended MOS School at Camp Del Mar, California for training as a Legal Service Specialist/4421. Upon completion of primary and secondary (4429) schooling in December 1987. executed orders to LSSS, 3rd FSSG, Okinawa, Japan and also deployed with Operation Bear Hunt '89 to Inchon, Korea.
After serving overseas, was assigned to LSSS, 2nd FSSG, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina from January 1989 to February 1991. During this period of service, attended NCO Leadership School in the fall of 1989 and was awarded an official NCO sword for earning the Sergeant Major's Leadership Award.
Received a Navy Achievement Medal and was meritoriously promoted to the ranks of Corporal and Sergeant before departing Camp Lejeune for MCRD, San Diego, California, for Drill Instructor duty. Completed D.I. School on June 20, 1991 and seven successful cycles with Third Recruit Training Battalion until August 1993.
Meritoriously promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant on July 2, 1993, and earned a Second Award, Navy Achievement Medal.
In September of 1993, reported to Marine Security Guard Battalion at Quantico, Virginia to serve as the Battalion Legal Chief. While stationed at MSG Bn, completed the Legal Officer's Course at Newport, RI, attended the Staff NCO Academy, Class 2-95, and received a Navy Commendation Medal.
Attended Marine Security Guard School, Class 2-96, graduated as the Honor Man and was posted as the Detachment Commander at the American Embassies in: Santiago, Chile, South America: Djibouti. Republic of Djibouti, Africa; and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, East Africa. Meritoriously promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant on January 2, 1998. Received two Navy Commendation Medals during these tours of duty: Second Award for deactivating the MSG Detachment at the American Embassy in Djibouti, and a Third Award for heroic acts during the terrorist bombing of the American Embassy in Dar es Salaam on August 7, 1998. Reported for duty as an Instructor/Advisor at Marine Security Guard School in late September 1998 at Quantico. Trained nine classes of MSG students over a period of two years in numerous areas, such as: PR-24. PPCT, Shotgun and 9mm Weapons, Edged Weapons Defense, React Procedures. Customs & Courtesies, and Uniform/Clothing. Received a Fourth Award, Navy Commendation Medal for his achievements as an Instructor/Advisor at MSG Battalion.
Reported for duty as a Senior Paralegal Instructor at the Naval Justice School, Newport, Rhode Island on July 5, 2000. Developed and taught both the Mid-Level Legal Specialist Course and Battalion Legal Clerk Course. Also during this tour of duly. assisted in the instruction of Navy and Marine Corps Lawyers, Officers, Senior Enlisted and the Navy Legalman Courses. Projected and coordinated movement of the Marine Corps' MOS School for Legal Services Specialist to Naval Station, Newport from Camp Johnson, North Carolina. Upon completion of duty at the Naval Justice School, received a Fifth Award, Navy Commendation Medal.
Frocked to the rank of First Sergeant on May 31, 2001 and reported for duty at NAS Patuxent River, Maryland, in June 2001 as the Company First Sergeant for Marine Corps Security Force Company. Awarded the Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal for coordinating the Young Marine Program, coaching local youth sports and coordinating Exam Proctors for community schools. Selected and reassigned as the Company First Sergeant for a one-year unaccompanied tour of duty with Marine Corps Security Force Company Guantanamo Bay, Cuba in July 2003. Awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for meritorious service while at Patuxent River and GTMO, Cuba.
On August 7, 2004, reported for duty with Second Battalion, Third Marines, aboard MCBH Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii as the Weapons Company First Sergeant. Participated in HCAX with 3rd Marines during September/October 2004 on the Big Island of Hawaii in preparation for deployment to Afghanistan in 2005. Selected and frocked to the rank of Sergeant Major, was posted with MALS-24 at MCAS Kaneohe Bay from December 30, 2004 until November 30, 2006. Awarded a second Meritorious Service Medal for achievements while with MALS-24.
Executed orders in December 2006, for duty with 1st Battalion. 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton. California. Deployed with 1/1 to Iraq in support of OIF 06-08 from July 18, 2007 to February 13, 2008. Awarded the Bronze Star. On June 4, 2008, reported as the Sergeant Major for Helicopter Training Squadron HMLA/T-303 ("Atlas") at MCAS Camp Pendleton and received a Sixth Award, Navy Commendation Medal.
November 5, 2008, posted as the Sergeant Major of Marine Corps Embassy Security Group (MCESG), Quantico, Virginia. Travelled extensively during this assignment worldwide, ensuring Marines stationed at U.S. Embassies were ready, capable, and of the highest caliber, while acting as good ambassadors. Awarded a Meritorious Service Medal for achievements with MCESG.
On March 29, 2011 posted as the Sergeant Major for Marine Corps Bases, Japan and Camp Smedley D. Butler at Camp Foster, Okinawa, Japan. On September 30, 2011, all USMC installations located in the Pacific were reorganized as Marine Corps Installations Pacific (MCIPAC), making Sergeant Major Kimble the MCIPAC Sergeant Major.
From September 13, 2013 to May 27, 2016, Sergeant Major Kimble was posted as the 3d Marine Aircraft Wing Sergeant Major.
