The MVD will begin issuing REAL ID compliant driver’s licenses and identification cards beginning November 14, 2016.

However, New Mexico has received an extension under the Real ID Act. That means current New Mexico driver’s licenses and identification cards can be used to enter federal facilities and board domestic flights until October 2020. If your driver’s license expires before October 2020, you are urged to renew their driver’s license on your normal renewal cycle. If your driver’s license expires after October 2020, you will receive a postcard with renewal instructions.

The renewal date is listed on the face of the driver’s license or identification card.
