Truckers are the third largest motorist group using Nevada's highways, after commuters and tourists. Accordingly, the Nevada Department of Transportation’s (NDOT) role in the regulation of trucking operations is far reaching. The Nevada Revised Statutes, the Nevada Administrative Code, and NDOT Letters of Instruction are designed to ensure the safety of truckers and motorists alike, to protect and preserve our highway infrastructure, and to accommodate commercial operations as much as practicable. This is accomplished by:
- Setting and enforcing weight, load and route restrictions;
- Setting and enforcing safe speed limits based on proven engineering principles;
- Designing, building and maintaining safe and functional highways and bridges; and
- Providing timely and accurate road condition and weather information to prevent avoidable delays whenever possible.
This section of the NDOT web site provides basic information and requirements for Over-dimensional Vehicle Permits and the current statutes, regulations, and Permit Conditions and Restrictions. Additionally, posted on-line are copies of the latest Nevada Commercial Vehicle Handbook and Nevada Traction Device Requirements for trucks and buses.
