Emergency Communications Overview

Ensuring effective emergency communications is a key part of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) mission to strengthen national preparedness and resilience. Since DHS was established in 2003, one of its top priorities has been—and will continue to be—enhancing the communications capabilities of the nation’s emergency responders. Ensuring operable and interoperable communications and real-time information sharing among responders during all threats and hazards is paramount to the safety and security of all Americans.
