  • Hi all, I'm a researcher from the University of Southampton and I'm ...looking at how we can improve online disaster management using social media. If you have used social media to discuss a disaster, then we need your help. This is a study which aims to understand how social media is used during disasters, and which particular sites and/or features are the most extensively utilised. The results from this survey will be used by researchers at the University of Southampton, England, to assess and evaluate particular social media sites. The study aims to improve online disaster management strategies, and to reduce the risk and damages posed to the public in crisis situations. The experiment seeks volunteers to fill out a short survey which will take roughly 10 minutes to complete. To take part in the survey you must meet the following criteria: - You have used any form of social media during the course of any disaster to discuss the event, or aspects relating to the event. This may be at any point in time beginning from the fortnight before the disaster occurred (pre-disaster), up until the fortnight after the disaster has ended (post-disaster). This may have been from any geographical location (you DO NOT have to have been physically present where the disaster occurred). - You are over 18 years’ old. A parent or guardian may not take the survey on your behalf. All survey data collected will be anonymous, and will not be shared with any third parties. All participants have a right to withdraw their consent at any point during or after completing the survey. To take the survey please follow the link here – https://www.isurvey.soton.ac.uk/20840 For more information please contact the researcher at bjg1g11@soton.ac.uk. See More
