Dr. Gurpartap Sandhoo Receives Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award

Naval Research Laboratory scientist Dr. Gurpartap Sandhoo has been honored with the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award in recognition of his service as the Chief of Naval Research's Science and Technology Liaison to the Director, Naval Warfare Integration Group (N00X).

Serving in this position from September 2010 to April 2012, Dr. Sandhoo provided a critical and strategically important conduit between N00X and the science and technology community. He advised and provided senior leadership insight into the research and development investments and advocated scientific and technical solutions to deliver warfighting capabilities to the Fleet. As the "plank owner" of the CNO's Speed to Fleet (S2F) initiative, he ensured that critical naval needs are met by accelerating the insertion of maturing technologies into the Fleet.

Since completing his work with the Chief of Naval Operations staff, Dr. Sandhoo returned to NRL in May 2012, where he now reports directly to the Director of Research and serves as focal point at NRL for providing technologies to the warfighter and the Fleet. In addition he serves as the NRL STILO (S&T Intelligence Liaison Officer) and is tasked to ensure that the intelligence community can leverage and be informed by the scientific and technical investments and capabilities of NRL.

He holds a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland, a master's degree in Space Systems, a doctorate in Aeronautics, Astronautics and Propulsion from George Washington University, a master's in Electrical Engineering from the Johns Hopkins University, and a master's in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College.
