Summary

The Office of Inspector General is initiating an audit on the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) policies and procedures for hiring new air traffic controllers. We are conducting this audit at the request of the Chairmen of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and its Subcommittee on Aviation, as well as Senator Nelson. In February 2014, FAA made several changes to its controller hiring process. Our audit objectives are to identify (1) FAA’s justification for adopting the new hiring process and (2) the changes that have occurred in the hiring pool since the process was implemented.
