Summary

At the request of the Chairman and Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, we plan to initiate an audit on the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) transformational programs for the Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen). These transformational programs are expected to provide the foundational technologies and infrastructure needed for NextGen. This audit will provide an update on a report we issued in April 2012. Our audit objectives are to identify any (1) formal changes FAA has made to program scope, including costs and schedules, and (2) adjustments in FAA’s anticipated benefits with respect to reducing Agency costs and improving the flow of air traffic.
