Ratings and reviews

Rated 5 out of5 by fromExcellent for work and homeRight out of the box this system has become a must have item for the entire family. We love the pen and the dial. My kids use the Studio to draw pictures and play minecraft, while I use it to review and mark-up documents for work. I now prefer using this to having a printed document given the screen clarity, ability to zoom in on small print, and the pen/inking features which accommodate my very messy handwriting. I had been using (and still use) the surface book, so it was easy to get started on this system and recommend drawboard pdf as your first download if you do document review. Can't wait to start editing our go pro video with this. Enjoy.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromEverything I hoped it would beIt took mere moments to get it out of the box and working. The screen is mesmerizing it is so sharp and vibrant. The cool thing about this device is that it makes you want to do cool stuff. My kids are often are more interested in coloring, painting and drawing than they are in video games or even streaming video because the Surface Studio creates so many possibilities. Even organizing clippings, resources and notes for a document is more engaging and seamless when you tilt the screen down and use the touch and pen inputs. Even making notes to yourself or shopping lists feels more natural with the multiple ways of interacting with the computer.Windows Hello face recognition works as well as the demonstrations have shown, even when your kids look a lot alike. The only thing that is lacking is for more software developers to take full advantage of the pen, dial and multi-touch possibilities.

Rated 5 out of5 by frombeautiful screen with touchThe studio sits at our built in desk area right off of our kitchen. Its the families central hub for everything. We had a nuc before on a 27 inch Samsung uhd monitor and the surface studio has everything and more for a similar price. Top notch quality and everything works great together. We use Cortana as our Alexa and it works great. The only thing I kept from my previous set up are my Bose monitor speakers. Love the screen its amazing. If your used to a big monitor with mouse and keyboard you almost forget it has touch until one of you kids touches it and you think ah snap I forgot I can touch it. Bottom line the surface team made a great productivity tool and a great all in one with great specs. The main reason I wanted this pc is for drawing. I illustrate and I have purchased several surface computers, the studio is the computer I've wanted and needed for me and my family to enjoy and work on.

Rated 4 out of5 by fromStunning design with room for improvementThe machine sits proudly on my desk immediately next to a late 2014 iMac 5K computer. In most design respects it matches or outshines the Mac. The hinged monitor is the paramount feature, and it performs as expected: clear and crisp in viewing, a huge writing surface, with the entire thing convertible to a writing surface. Wonderful! I love it!I've been stymied by some of the shortcomings, however, especially considering the price point. Some of these items are really cheap fixes, and why Microsoft didn't consider them upfront is bothersome:1) The USB ports do not supply enough power to my Blu Ray drive for it to work. I'm guessing the ports are essentially under-powered laptop ports, rather than more robust desktop ports. I've had to use a powered USB hub, which means more wires on the desktop, detracting from the elegant footprint of the computer.2) The hybrid drive is a bit of a head scratcher, especially with SSD prices falling continuously. My iMac is two years older and has an 1TB SSD. At the very least, a large SSD should have been an option.3) The included keyboard and mouse don't connect immediately at startup, requiring a small but annoying delay. I have to tap the keyboard a few times to get it to connect. The keyboard's keytops also seem to want to pop off if I press them at a "just-so" angle. Finally, if you ever want to modify the BIOS (UEFI), you'll want to keep a corded keyboard around, as the included keyboard doesn't connect to the computer at all in that mode.

Rated 4 out of5 by fromGreat machineAlthough I have only had the computer for a week and have not had a chance yet to fully explore all its capabilities I am pleased with my purchase. The monitor is the best I have ever owned and it is nicely complimented with the use of the Surface Dial and Surface Pen. The only thing that I would like improved on this computer would be a more powerful graphics card as it limits gaming as well as any possibility for virtual reality applications.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromFamily artistsI purchased this for my daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren. They were amazed at the style (no tower). They were overjoyed at what the Surface Studio could do and have not yet completing its possibilities.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromNear perfectThe Surface lineup has been known for its high quality screens, and not only is the Surface Studio's no exception, but Microsoft has really outdone themselves here. It is literally the best screen you will have ever seen.On top of its incredible color and sharpness, the screen is incredibly (and uniformly) thin, feels very solid, and is packed with features. It's basically got all the features and buttons of a huge tablet, and in fact if you lay it nearly flat you can operate it as such. It's a huge rebuke to Apple's misguided insistence of not putting a touch screen in their computers.Having the computer built into the base of the stand turns out to be a much better choice than putting it in back of the monitor, as Apple does with its iMac. The only downside is a slight bit of fan noise, but to be clear it is not a loud computer. It's just that because the computer is located directly in front of your on the table, the fans are closer to your ears. But you don't really even notice the computer, it just looks like a stand. The speakers are pretty decent, and offer good volume. Naturally, with everything so compact, you won't get a ton of low-end sound, but it's pretty good. The included keyboard and mouse are good, and feel high-end. Both are Bluetooth connected, and connection quality has been consistently strong. On the keyboard the only nitpick I have is I wish there was a bit of space between the cursor arrow key stack and the alpha and numeric components it sits between. The uniform spacing makes it hard to locate the cursor movement keys without looking down. That may be helped with practice, but it could be avoided with just a bit of spacing.Anyone who is not familiar with Windows Hello is going to be shocked how cool the feature is on the Surface Studio. The computer just looks at you for a second, figures out who you are, and logs you in. It works just as quickly and well as it does on the Surface Book laptop. (People concerned with privacy should know that it is all done locally on your PC -- nothing is transmitted to Microsoft.)While the Surface Studio is an obvious match for creative types, the real news here is just how great the computer is for everyone else. I could not be happier with my purchase, and I already have another one on order.
