Roadmap/Focus area(s): | Infrastructure Research and Technology Strategic Plan and Roadmap
Project Description: | This project will examine the state of the art of 6D building information modeling/civil integrated management (BIM/CIM) technology, both domestically and abroad and its application to highway asset management. Once this information is synthesized, the effort will focus on developing best-practice recommendations that include a plan for the integration of 6D design into current highway construction standards, educational curriculum, and professional practice in the United States. These recommendations will serve as a foundation for industry, academia, and government to incorporate 6D elements into future highway design and specification practice.
Goals: |
The objective of this research is to gather, analyze, and distill data to determine the current state of the practice for using digital modeling in asset management practices and, based on this, develop best practice recommendations.
|
|
Product Type: | Research report Techbrief
Test Methodology: | The approach used for this project will begin with a literature review/synthesis, followed by Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and stakeholder review. The product will be include a set of recommendations based on the analysis of the synthesis.
Expected Benefits: | The recommendations and guidelines from this project will serve as a foundation for industry, academia, and government to incorporate 6D elements into future highway design and specification practice.
Deliverables: | Name: Project Report, TechBrief Product Type(s): Research report, Techbrief Description: Development of a report including best practices for the adoption and integration of 6D design elements into transportation agency practices, standards, and specifications. Concurrently develop a TechBrief that complements and summarizes the main report.
