Project detail
Project Description:   This is a Small Business Innovation Research Phase I project to develop a prototype system with a data management subsystem; a data collection subsystem; and a data analysis and expert system. The whole system will provide better data collection and data analysis techniques, and provide advanced techniques for indepth system analysis and generate systemwide solutions for more effective signal operations. The data management system has three major interfaces. The first one is for data input, which can take in various regular traffic sensor data and wireless sensor network data. The second one is an interface to third-party simulation software. The third one is an interface to a knowledge-based expert system. The data collection system consists of multiple wireless sensors and regular traffic sensors. The sensors are networks with common clock and location references. The expert system will store localized knowledge in signal analysis and help generate data analysis results and operational advice.
Goals:   The goal is to improve signal systems operations.
Background Information:   Signal timing practice needs a better data collection system and knowledge-based expert systems to get better data and to perform better analysis. This project will provide both to improve signal timing.
