Inaugural Emergency Preparedness 5K Run & Walk

PEARL –The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA), the Mississippi Civil Defense Emergency Association (MCDEMA), the Mississippi State Fire Academy and the Mississippi National Guard will be hosting an inaugural Emergency Preparedness 5K Run/Walk and one-mile Fun Run on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016 at the Miss. State Fire Academy. All proceeds from this event will benefit the MCDEMA College Scholarship program.

Emergency preparedness displays will be onsite to encourage event participants to learn how to be prepared for an emergency. Allstate Insurance will provide emergency supply kits for event participants to assemble and take home with them.

There will be displays highlighting the preparedness of the National Guard, Fire Academy and MEMA. The equipment includes a National Guard Blackhawk helicopter, National Guard trucks, Pearl Fire Department trucks and Pearl Police Department vehicles for attendees to explore. All ages are invited to come learn more about emergency preparedness.

Race day registration will begin at 7 a.m. and the 5K will begin at 8 a.m. The Fun Run will immediately follow the 5K.

The cost for individual runners and walkers is $25 and $10 for the Fun Run. Medals will be provided to the top three winners by age group for walkers, runners and Fun Run participants.

The event will be held at the State Fire Academy located at 1 Fire Academy Rd, Pearl, Miss. 39208. Parking will be available at MEMA located at 1 MEMA Drive Pearl, Miss. 39208.
