Changing weather patterns are nothing new to Alaska Wildlife Trooper Timothy Abbott. It’ll be beautiful out but after a few hours angry weather patterns can move in. That is exactly the situation Trooper Abbott found himself in on the afternoon of Jan. 1, 2016 on Eagle Summit. The Crime Suppression Unit in the Mat-Su Valley was formed at the beginning of 2014 to focus on time-intensive property crimes and the serial criminals who commit them. Since many of the perpetrators have each racked up a bevy of misdeeds, taking one off the streets makes a noticeable dent in crime in the Valley. In its first year alone, the endeavor produced a 38 percent reduction in the number of burglaries and a 39 percent reduction in the number of thefts in the Mat-Su Valley. Read Full Story
