How to Apply to the National Emergency Management Advanced Academy

The application window for the Advanced Academy in FY18 is March 1 – May 31, 2017. A formal selection board will convene in June 2017 to review the application packages with an announcement in July 2017.

It is expected that the applications for these limited number of spaces will be very competitive in nature. Applicants should first look at the entire Emergency Management Professional Program (EMPP) website to gauge which Academy they best fit in. Advanced Academy Applicants are encouraged to review all selection and application elements before submitting their application package.

If you are a local jurisdiction, allow time to process your application through your proper channels to your respective State Training Officer (STO).

Application packages will be reviewed by a selection committee in June. Applications must contain all five items listed below and submitted in the below order (1-5). Incomplete packages will not be considered.

  1. A Cover Letter (no required format)
  2. A FEMA Form 119-25-1
  3. Advanced Academy Questionnaire
  4. Advanced Academy Commitment Form
  5. Two (2) Page Resume (no required format)

To Submit Your Advanced Academy Application Package

The completed application should be packaged based on the guidance above and sent between March 1 – May 31, 2017. It is recommended that packages be scanned and sent via email to: netcadmissions@fema.dhs.gov.

Please put the following information on the subject line of your email: National Emergency Management Advanced Academy Application; Case of (Add Your Name).

Application Selection Criteria

Applications will be evaluated based on recommended prerequisites to include

  • A minimum of three (3) years in an Emergency Management position
  • Project and group Emergency Management commitment and leadership
  • Substantial continuing service and commitment to the field of Emergency Management
  • Whole community representation

Tuition and Travel Reimbursement

There is no cost for tuition. Some individuals may be eligible for stipend reimbursement.

INDIVIDUALS ELIGIBLE FOR STIPEND REIMBURSEMENT:

  • State, local or tribal government representatives.
  • Recognized volunteer organization representatives.
  • Active emergency management organization representatives.
  • Representatives from state or local fire organizations.

INDIVIDUALS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR STIPEND REIMBURSEMENT:

  • Federal government. (Federal students are subject to federal travel regulations and travel under orders prepared by their office.)
  • Private industry employees.
  • Employees who are contracted to federal, state or local government entities (such as rural-metro departments).
  • Representatives of a foreign organization.

Important: Once you have been enrolled in E0451 (first course in the series), you will automatically be enrolled in the next course in the Advanced Academy series until you reach the final (E0454) course. If you do not wish to continue in the academy after being accepted to the program and enrolled in E0451, you must contact NETC admissions and request to be dis-enrolled from the program. Likewise, if you were automatically enrolled in any course and the dates do not work for you, please contact admissions and request an alternate date.
