October 21, 2016

Currently, nine uncontained wildfires have burned 22,002 acres in seven states. Nineteen new large fires were reported in 10 states from Alaska to Georgia. Tennessee reported nine new large fires, but firefighters were able to contain eight of them. For the first time in months, there are no uncontained large fires in California.

Weather: Rain associated with a frontal system will move through New England Friday as high pressure and cooler fall conditions spread across the Eastern U.S. heading into the weekend. Mild, mainly dry weather will cover the West with hot and windy conditions along the southern California coast continuing through Friday. A strong storm system will move toward the West Coast early in the week, bringing rain and snow to the Northwest and scattered showers and thunderstorms to the Southwest and Great Basin. Another system late in the week will bring rain, snow and a few thunderstorms to much of the West while another front takes rain and thunderstorms through the East. Cool conditions will remain across the northern half of the country while very warm to hot weather continues across the southern half.
