DHS Silicon Valley Innovation Program Innovation Homeland Security Day for the Financial Services Sector, November 14, Boston, Massachusetts—The DHS S&T Silicon Valley Innovation Program will host a Homeland Security Day in Boston on November 14. This event will provide technology startups and investors with an opportunity to learn more about Financial Services Sector (FSS) challenges and the technologies being used to combat cyber threats. By participating, you’ll have the chance to help shape the program direction and impact the Country’s financial stability.

Let’s Become #CyberAware during National Cyber Security Awareness Month!: October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) and throughout the month, S&T’s Cyber Security Division will be sharing helpful information designed to make you more cyber savvy and safe.

Cyber Security Division Transition to Practice Technology Demonstration Day – October 25, 2016– Santa Clara, California: This event will feature seven innovative cybersecurity technologies from the TTP Programs’ Year 3 class. These technologies have been developed at the Department of Energy Laboratories and National Science Foundation grantees, and have the potential to strengthen an organization’s cybersecurity posture. During this technology demonstration event, hear directly from the research teams that have produced these technologies and join in discussions with technology investors from private industry on piloting the technologies and other areas of interest for driving further cybersecurity research.

October Facebook Town Hall: Vehicle Cyber Security: Is Your Car Safe from Cyber-Attacks? – October 27, 2016 at 1pm - 2pm EDT: Join DHS S&T October 27 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. EDT for a Facebook virtual town hall focused on the growing issue of vehicle cyber security. This virtual town hall is an excellent opportunity to learn why late model vehicles—much like your computer and mobile phone—are vulnerable to cyber-attacks and get insight on a key S&T Cyber Security Division project addressing this critical safety issue that impacts an indispensable part of our lives. 2016 Government Cyber Security SBIR Workshop - August 30 - September 1, 2016 - Washington, DC: The 2016 Government Cyber Security Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Workshop will focus on maximizing technology transition opportunities for SBIR funded research. The workshop will feature short presentations by funded small businesses describing their products and technologies, prime contractors identifying their programs and needs and government stakeholders describing their mission and requirements. Private one-on-one sessions will be held for integrators, government, and/or investors to discuss partnering, tech transition and business opportunities with small businesses. S&T Cyber Security Division Exhibiting at Blackhat 2016 - August 3 - 4, 2016 - Las Vegas, Nevada—If you will be attending Blackhat 2016 in Las Vegas be sure to visit the CSD booth—#1671—in the exhibit hall. At its booth, CSD-funded performers will be demonstrating their cutting-edge cybersecurity technologies, including PcapDB, REnigma, iVe and REDUCE. You also can network with the performers and CSD staffers while you’re visiting the booth!

Mobile Threats and Defenses RFI Industry Day - August 2, 2016 - Menlo Park, California—The S&T Cyber Security Division has issued a Request for Information (RFI) seeking input from the mobile and cellular industry and researchers for a congressionally mandated study about mobile device defense capability gaps and safeguards. The RFI, which was published July 7 in FedBizOpps, will enable industry and the research community to contribute information about mobile threats and vulnerabilities as well as existing and potential technology solutions to enhance security for mobile devices used by the federal government. CSD will hold an Industry Day on August 2, 2016 in Menlo Park, California to provide mobile and wireless industry researchers the opportunity to gain more insight into the RFI and ask question of the government presenters.

DHS Silicon Valley Innovation Program Innovation Day, July 29, Menlo Park, California— DHS will present opportunities—initially discussed at the Homeland Security Day event in April—for technology startups and investors to develop or implement existing cutting-edge technologies to support CBP's mission in the areas of Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS) Capabilities and Enhancing CBP Airport Passenger Processing.This event is targeted to representatives of tech startups, investors and accelerators.

Cyber Security Division Mobile App Security BAA Industry Day, June 9, 2016, Arlington, VA: Mobile apps offer government and business opportunities to improve mission effectiveness and productivity by providing always-on connectivity, real-time information sharing and unrestricted mobility. However, in part because of the increasing use of mobile apps to access information and services, these apps are replacing operating systems as the most prominent avenue of a cyberattack. The Cyber Security Division hosted a Mobile App Security Industry for interested parties in the Mobile App Security call under S&T CSD BAA HSHQDC-15-R-B0005.

FY16 Security Division Transition to Practice Technology Demonstration Day for the Financial Services Sector – June 14, 2016 – New York City, NY: The technology demonstration featured eight innovative cybersecurity technologies from Transition to Practice’s (TTP) 2016 class that were developed at the Department of Energy and Department of Defense laboratories. During this technology demonstration, financial sector cybersecurity professionals learned about these new technologies through presentations, demonstrations, and interactions with the research teams.

FY15 Cyber Security Division Transition to Practice Technology Demonstration Day – June 21, 2016– Washington, DC: The technology demonstration featured seven innovative cybersecurity technologies from Transition to Practice’s (TTP) 2015 class that were developed by Department of Energy National Laboratories and National Science Foundation funded university projects that have the potential to significantly strengthen an organization’s cybersecurity posture. During this technology demonstration, government and private sector cybersecurity professionals learned about these new technologies through presentations, demonstrations, and interactions with the research teams.

FY15 Cyber Security Division Transition to Practice Technology Demonstration Day for the Energy Sector – May 18, 2016 – Houston, TX: The technology demonstration featured seven innovative cybersecurity technologies from Transition to Practice’s (TTP) 2015 class that were developed by Department of Energy National Laboratories and National Science Foundation funded university projects that have the potential to significantly strengthen an organization’s cybersecurity posture. During this technology demonstration, energy sector cybersecurity professionals learned about these new technologies through presentations, demonstrations, and interactions with the research teams.

2016 Cyber Security Division R&D Showcase and Technical Workshop – February 17-19, 2016, Washington, DC – The Research and Development (R&D) Showcase featured 10 innovative technology solutions from the Cyber Security Division (CSD) portfolio that address current complex cybersecurity challenges. The two-day R&D Technical Workshop provided collaboration and knowledge sharing to improve existing deployed technologies and the transition of innovative research to safeguard cyberspace.

CSD exhibited at 2016 RSA Conference – February 29 - March 3, 2016 – Moscone Center, San Francisco, CA - CSD exhibited at the 2016 RSA Conference, where we showcased mature technologies ready for pilot deployments and commercialization into the marketplace.

Cyber Security Division Transition to Practice Investors, Integrators, and Information Technology Companies (I3) – East - January 14, 2016, Washington, DC: This event featured eight innovative cutting-edge cybersecurity technologies developed at the Department of Energy National Laboratories and the potential to strengthen and organization’s cybersecurity posture. During this event, cybersecurity professionals and technology investors from private industry learned about new technologies through presentations, demonstrations, and discussions with the research teams that produced these technologies. In addition, attendees were given an opportunity to schedule a private one-on-one discussion with the researcher to discuss opportunities for commercializing the technologies and areas of interest to drive further cybersecurity research.

Workshops

Cybersecurity Principal Investigator Value Creation Workshop

Innovation is the primary means of growth, prosperity, and quality of life that creates abundance in an extremely competitive world by teams who are committed to creating a compelling value for their customers. SRI International’s unique course in Value Creation helps participants improve their skills in formulating and articulating a compelling value proposition to effectively engage integration and transition partners. The course is led by experienced workshop facilitators and innovation experts and includes an interactive discussion of the Five Disciplines of Innovation and detailed presentations by each participant in a Value Creation Forum—where each participant delivers a summary of their Value Proposition and receives structured critique and feedback.

Program objectives include coaching participants on how to:

  • Recognizing major innovation opportunities, while eliminating those that are merely interesting.
  • Developing compelling value propositions for customers, partners, and the enterprise.
  • Establishing a disciplined process for rapidly evaluating and developing new innovations while minimizing risk.
  • Collaborating more effectively with customers and colleagues to assemble the best teams.
  • Identifying and removing obstacles that inhibit innovation.
