Air Cargo Program

Air Cargo Program

The Transportation Security Administration works with cargo carriers to ensure that 100 percent of cargo transported on passenger flights is screened for potential threats.  EXD is working to develop new technologies to improve overall screening while ensuring the flow of legitimate commerce does not slow down.

EXD has conducted studies of air cargo screening facilities, collecting data on background contaminants and their effect on devices used to screen for trace levels of explosives leading to the development of better algorithms for the screening systems. EXD previously developed a variety of training tools for screeners to improve overall performance. S&T's Transportation Security Laboratory conducts independent testing and evaluation of new commercially developed cargo screening systems.
