The ideal candidate has lead efforts relating to the development of guidance and National Incident Management systems (NIMS) and has thorough understanding of the role of the whole community in implementing NIMS. This position starts at a salary of $128,082 (GS-15). EMERGENCY ASSIGNMENT: Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.

Duties

In this position, you will be responsible for providing support to the Director and Deputy Director in the conceptualization and development of policies, plans and programs. Typical assignments include:

  • Maintaining up to date knowledge of important issues related to the office involving actions that affect office policies, plans, programs, mission and activities.
  • Analyzing problems, issues and requirements.
  • Reviewing and commenting on relevant documents and provides recommendations for best course of action in line with the views and policies.
  • Exercising initiative and independent judgment in planning, analyzing, coordinating, and directing the development of studies and programs.
  • Reviewing proposed legislation or regulations which would significantly change the basic character of agency programs, the way the agency conducts its business with the public or with private industry, or which modify important inter-agency relationships.
  • Planning and leading projects and activities, and evaluating and recommending significant changes to program policies and procedures.
