Program Description

The American Job Center network helps workers, job seekers, and businesses find help to fit their employment needs in easy-to-reach locations. The network helps businesses find qualified workers, and helps job seekers get employment and training services to help boost their careers. There are nearly 2,500 American Job Centers (AJCs) located across the U.S.

How can an American Job Center help me?

AJCs offer free career and employment-related help to job seekers in a wide range of services. Services vary by location but may include:

  • Resource rooms with phones, free Internet and resume writing tools.
  • Accessibility and special accommodations for people with disabilities.
  • CareerOneStop's Worker ReEmployment website access for laid-off workers
  • State job bank or CareerOneStop’s national Job Search website access.
  • Skills testing.
  • Employment plan development.
  • Career counseling and practice interviewing.
  • Job search help.
  • Hiring events and business service information.
  • Referrals to community resources, other agencies, and more.
  • Unemployment insurance info.
  • Labor market and employer info.
  • Info on training, education, and related supportive services such as child care, emergency funds, Medicaid, and other benefits.

General Program Requirements

AJCs provide access to career guidance, and employment and training opportunities for all Americans.

Application Process

Many services in an AJC do not require an application and are self-service. Certain specialized services may require an application. Check with your local center for details.
