Program Description

Social Security Surviving Divorced Spouse Benefits are paid to the divorced spouse of a deceased worker who earned enough work credits.

To qualify, you must:

  • Be at least age 60.
  • Be divorced from the worker.
  • Have been married at least 10 years.
  • Be entitled to a lower Social Security benefit on your own work record.
  • Be unmarried (unless an exception applies).

Visit the Information You Need to Apply for Widow’s, Widower’s, or Surviving Divorced Spouse’s Benefits – Form SSA-10 page for details on how to apply.
