Social Security Spouse's Insurance Benefits

Program Description

Social Security Spouse's Insurance Benefits are paid to the spouse of a worker who gets Social Security Retirement or Disability benefits.

To qualify, you must:

  • Be married for at least one year to a worker who gets benefits, or be the mother or father of their biological child.
  • Be at least age 62, or under age 62 and caring for the worker’s child (under age 16 or disabled).
  • Get a lower Social Security retirement benefit based on your own work.

Once you complete the questionnaire, you get a list of benefits you may qualify for. Print this page for your records before going to the application site.
