Free two-day classroom training opportunities from the National Fire Academy (NFA) are available for students who may not have the time to attend six-day courses. The courses offered for our Off-Campus Two-Day and On-Campus Two-Day programs are identical. The same cadre of instructors is used for delivery of courses. Curriculum areas cover a variety of subjects, including fire/injury prevention, public education, company tactical operations, incident command, health and safety, hazardous materials, and counterterrorism.
NFA Off-Campus Two-Day courses are co-sponsored jointly by NFA and state and local fire training systems. Each year state fire training agencies select two-day courses for delivery within their own state. If your fire department is interested in hosting one of these course deliveries, contact your state fire training agency.
States have the option of electing to use courses as Train-the-Trainer programs. Course materials are handed off in digital form to state training systems hosting Train-the-Trainer deliveries.
Information about application procedures, courses, dates and locations of deliveries is available through the off-campus two-day course schedule or by contacting your state fire training agency. Each state is responsible for all course admission procedures.
For general information about this program, contact the NFA’s Off-Campus Two-Day Program manager at 800- 238-3358, ext. 1301, or 301- 447-1301.
The On-Campus Two-Day Program is offered at the NFA campus in Emmitsburg, Maryland as an educational opportunity for fire personnel with a minimum of three years of experience from specific states. This program strengthens a state’s fire service community through education, personal networking, and a shared collegial experience. Students are offered the opportunity to grow professionally through a quality educational experience and to increase their knowledge and skills to provide a safe and effective response to their communities.
State fire training agencies sponsor the weekends in partnership with the NFA. The state agency selects the courses and recruits and enrolls students according to the established student selection criteria. The NFA hosts the weekend and provides the instruction and course materials. In addition, lodging is provided at no cost to personnel from career or volunteer departments and state/local governments. Meal costs and transportation expenses are the responsibility of the students or the sponsoring agencies.
Information about application procedures and courses is available by contacting your state fire training agency.
