Watersheds

All activities occur within a watershed, an area defined by a common drainage endpoint. Land uses within each watershed directly affect their water quality and other environmental features. As a significant form of land use, transportation presents many potential threats to watersheds. The following resources can provide information about watershed management for transportation professionals:

Principles of Watershed Management - This EPA online training module provides an understanding of watershed management processes, principles, and frameworks. This module is one of 15 required for the Watershed Management Certificate Program.

8 Tools of Watershed Protection - This EPA online training module provides a watershed protection approach that consists of eight tools to protect or restore aquatic resources in an urbanized or developing watershed. This module is one of 15 required for the Watershed Management Certificate Program.

Surf Your Watershed - This tool offered by the EPA allows searches for watersheds based on location and provides listings of organizations working to protect each watershed.
