WYDOT reopens Fort Steele rest area

Motorists traveling on I-80 between Rawlins and Laramie will now be able to access the Fort Steele rest area. The Wyoming Department of Transportation reopened the Fort Steele rest area on Tuesday. Earlier this year, WYDOT closed the rest area due to a main water pump failure. That and other mechanical issues have now been fixed. WYDOT also has two operators in place who have the certifications to oversee that facility. Visit WYDOT's website for a complete list of all rest areas. The Wyoming Department of Transportation is temporarily putting a hold on new specialty and prestige plate applications from Sept. 24 through Oct. 3 to prepare for plates that will feature a new background. Starting in 2017, the new plate design featuring the Lower Green River Lake and Squaretop Mountain will be on the state’s 12 specialty plates, the prestige plates and the standard plates motorists receive at the county when registering their vehicles. The Wyoming Aeronautics Commission will attend the Wyoming Airport Operators Association Annual Conference on Wednesday, Sept. 14 and Thursday, Sept. 15, and then conduct its quarterly business meeting on Friday, Sept. 16, both in Cheyenne. Pine Bluffs rest area on I-80 closed for repairs

The Pine Bluffs rest area on I-80 will close on Monday so crews can perform curb and gutter repairs to the sidewalk and parking lot. The rest area, which is just before the Nebraska border, will need to be closed so crews have room to work and to give the concrete a chance to dry. The rest area is expected to reopen in about a week. The Fort Steele rest area on I-80 is also closed and crews are working to reopen it.
