A DER must have a thorough knowledge of DOT drug and alcohol test collection procedures and of the Custody and Control Form (CCF). The course concentrates on DOT procedures because they are considered the “gold standard in the industry” and covers each step of the collection process and problems arising in the collection process. Because a DER needs to know the type of testing procedures that apply in a given situation, this course also discusses Federal testing and non-DOT testing.

DATIA's Medical Review Officer (MRO) Assistants course is designed for those who actively assist MROs and those who have regular contact with donors, employers, and program administrators. This is not a medical, science, or technology course — rather it teaches practical methodology for meeting industry standards and provides helpful hints and best practices for situations regularly faced by MRO assistants. Attendees need not have previous knowledge of the collection and drug testing processes before enrolling in the course. The objective of this course is to ensure that MRO Assistant duties are performed in a professional and consistent manner, including maintaining confidentiality for the donor, and ensuring security and integrity in the process. DATIA’s MRO-A course is a nationally recognized training program for MRO Assistants and is a prerequisite for the Medical Review Officer Certification Council (MROCC) MRO Assistant certification and exam. This three-year certification – awarded upon successful completion and passing of the MROCC MRO-A online examination – acknowledges competency in those practical skills the MRO Assistant applies in fulfilling his or her professional responsibilities within the workplace drug testing arena. More information about the certification can be found at https://www.mrocc.org/get_certified.cfm.
