Office of Hearings

About Us

The Office of Hearings (OH) is comprised of administrative law judges (ALJs) and support staff.  Its ALJs conduct official hearings under the Administrative Procedure Act (5 U.S.C. § 551 et seq.) within the US Department of Transportation where formal APA hearings are required, including:

  • Air carrier citizenship determinations
  • Fairness of airport landing rates and charges

OH ALJs also conduct hearings in civil penalty proceedings in cases including:

  • Discrimination against passengers
  • Violation of travel agent regulations
  • Improper shipment of hazardous materials
  • Passenger misconduct on airlines
  • Airlines' and motor carriers' failure to comply with regulations concerning inspection, maintenance, and hours of service
