About Us
The Office of Hearings (OH) is comprised of administrative law judges (ALJs) and support staff. Its ALJs conduct official hearings under the Administrative Procedure Act (5 U.S.C. § 551 et seq.) within the US Department of Transportation where formal APA hearings are required, including:
- Air carrier citizenship determinations
- Fairness of airport landing rates and charges
OH ALJs also conduct hearings in civil penalty proceedings in cases including:
- Discrimination against passengers
- Violation of travel agent regulations
- Improper shipment of hazardous materials
- Passenger misconduct on airlines
- Airlines' and motor carriers' failure to comply with regulations concerning inspection, maintenance, and hours of service
