This week our industry celebrates #NSBSW, and the theme is #BullyFreeZone! LGBT students are some of the most commonly targeted when it comes to bullying. According to this article in the The Atlantic: 'Many LGBT students need staff who are...prepared to deal with the complex and diverse issues that the community experiences. As GLSEN’s report demonstrates, few in the school system feel equipped to handle these scenarios, suggesting that training and development for teachers and staff on LGBT-specific topics may be a necessity to provide equal safety and support for LGBT youth.'
At this year's #NAPTSummitConnect Pupil Transportation Safety Institute's Kathy Furneaux will address transporting LGBT students on the #yellowbus. Join us, and let's tackle bullying together.
Tough video to watch, but a valuable lesson for EVERYONE - especially as we celebrate #NSBSW. School bus drivers, especially, MUST be on high alert and make student safety their top priority.
A safety Wall of Fame to celebrate #NSBSW - awesome! Congrats to this year's inductees - those employees who have gone above and beyond the regular scope of their duties by displaying an outstanding commitment to safety.
"We believe that safety awareness is an ongoing process, not a one-time event," said Don Weir, Director of Passenger Safety and Compliance for Student Transportation Inc. and its Family of Companies. "So we view National School Bus Safety Week as just another way we can highlight the safety education and best practices that we train our drivers on year round."
It's #NSBSW and this year's theme is #BullyFreeZone. NAPT long ago took a leadership role in bullying prevention. As an organization, we believe that bullying is unacceptable. It has no place on the school bus.
That’s why we worked with the United States Education Department's Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools and the Safe and Supportive Schools Technical Assistance Center to create FREE bullying prevention training. Check it out!
Learn more about the 'connected school bus' at this year's #NAPTSummitConnect in #KCMO next month. Huntsville Independent School District's Tim Hooks will share the exciting initiative with participants. Join us!
