The DoD Patient Safety Program offers eight types of continuing education (CE) credit for TeamSTEPPSTeam Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety (TeamSTEPPS) is an evidence-based teamwork system designed to improve the quality, safety and efficiency of healthcare. TeamSTEPPS consists of a collection of instructions, materials and tools to help drive a successful teamwork initiative from the initial planning to implementation through to sustainment. The system is designed to improve patient safety using a three-phase approach: Phase I Assessment: Facility determines organizational readiness; Phase II Planning, Training & Implementation: Facility “decides what to do” and “makes it happen;” and Phase III Sustainment: Facility spreads the improvements in teamwork performance, clinical processes and outcomes resulting from the TeamSTEPPS initiative.TeamSTEPPS Train the Trainer, Train the Staff, and other pre-approved educational activities, based on attendee eligibility and provision of necessary requirements by the attendee. Mandatory attendee compliance requirements to earn CE credit applies to all CE credit types and includes:

  1. Online Registration: Attendees must register in the Online Registration Center (ORC) prior to the course ending. Attendees should register themselves as this ensures accurate information is collected and will help expedite processing of the CE credit. Please make sure your email is accurate as all communication regarding the course, including the mandatory post-activity evaluation and the final CE certificate, will be sent to the email provided at the time of registration.  If you do not have a military email account, you may use a personal email address.
  2. Attendance: Attendees must attend all contact hours of the course. Attendees who arrive late or depart early will forfeit their CE eligibility. Attendance will be taken daily for all CE eligible activities and the sign-in sheet becomes part of the audit trail for CE compliance.
  3. Evaluation: Attendees must complete a post-activity evaluation within 10 days of the activity end date. A link to a post-activity evaluation will be sent to the email you provide at the time of registration. You will receive two reminders to complete the evaluation. Failure to submit your evaluation in time will prevent you from getting your CE credit.
