USDOT Re-Opens Comment Period on Proposed New Rule to Improve Transportation Planning in High-Population Regions.  This week, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) announced the reopening of a public comment period for a proposed new rule that would improve coordination of multi-modal transportation planning by metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs) serving urban areas throughout the nation. The original comment period closed in August after being open for 60 days.

Federal Highway Administrator Leads Talk on Freight Economy in St. Louis

Nadeau to highlight national impact of the bi-state metro region as a major freight hub 

ST. LOUIS – Federal Highway Administrator Gregory Nadeau was in the Gateway City today for the last in a year-long, nationwide series of 24 roundtables to discuss the freight economy. 

The “Beyond Traffic 2045 Roundtables on the Freight Economy” were a response to U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx’s “Beyond Traffic” report that lays out transportation challenges in the next 30 years, including an anticipated 45-percent increase in freight traffic. 

Federal Highway Administration Cuts Ribbon on San Bernardino’s Devore Interchange

Project to bring congestion relief on major freight route in Southern California

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – Federal Highway Deputy Administrator David Kim today joined state and local officials to cut the ribbon on the Devore Interchange Project, which will improve safety and relieve congestion on a critical trade route in San Bernardino County.  The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) contributed $200 million toward the total project cost of $325 million.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Foxx Announces $357 Million TIFIA Loan to Build New Lanes on Houston’s SH 288

WASHINGTON – U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx today announced a $357 million Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (TIFIA) loan from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to finance the construction of four new toll lanes on State Highway (SH) 288 in Houston, Texas.

Federal Highway Administration Awards $4.8 Million to Five States and One Tribal Government to Expedite Project Delivery

WASHINGTON – U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx today announced more than $4.8 million in grants from the Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) Accelerated Innovation Deployment (AID) Demonstration program to fund projects in Arizona, Kentucky, New York, Ohio, Vermont and the Gwichyaa Zhee Gwich’in Tribal Government in Fort Yukon, Alaska. The grants will be used to improve safety, mobility and project delivery, and encourage use of innovations that reduce time-to-completion for highway projects nationwide.
