Federal Highway Administration Unveils National ‘Alternative Fuel and Electric Charging’ Network

New effort will help drivers find alternative fuels and vehicle charging stations nationwide

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) today announced 55 routes that will serve as the basis for a national network of “alternative fuel” corridors spanning 35 states. Though the network is nearly 85,000 miles long, more miles will be added in the future to accommodate electric, hydrogen, propane and natural gas vehicles as additional fueling and charging stations are built.

U.S. Department of Transportation Announces $1 Million for Emergency Repairs to Flood-Damaged Roads and Bridges in Pennsylvania

WASHINGTON – U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx today announced the immediate availability of $1 million in Emergency Relief (ER) funds from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to help begin repairs on flood-damaged roads and bridges in north and central Pennsylvania. 

“The flooding has caused significant damage to roads and bridges in central part of the state and Pennsylvanians are just beginning to pick up the pieces,” said Secretary Foxx. “This funding will help expedite the recovery process.”

U.S. Drivers Consumed 71.8 Billion Gallons of Gasoline in First Half of 2016

New Federal Data Show Fuel Consumption Increased for Sixth Straight Year

WASHINGTON – American vehicles consumed 71.8 billion gallons of gasoline in the first half of the year, an increase of 3 percent over the same period a year earlier. It is the highest amount on record and the sixth consecutive increase in national gasoline consumption for the six-month period ending June 30, 2016.

U.S. Department of Transportation Announces $1.6 Million for Emergency Repairs to Flood-Damaged Roads and Bridges in Wisconsin

 

WASHINGTON – U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx today announced the immediate availability of $1.6 million in Emergency Relief (ER) funds from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to help begin repairs to roads and bridges damaged by flooding in Wisconsin. 

“These floodwaters have impacted the residents and businesses statewide,” said Secretary Foxx. “This money will ensure critical repairs are made to keep affected communities connected to vital services and emergency relief.”

USDOT Re-Opens Comment Period on Proposed New Rule to Improve Transportation Planning in High-Population Regions.  This week, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) announced the reopening of a public comment period for a proposed new rule that would improve coordination of multi-modal transportation planning by metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs) serving urban areas throughout the nation. Federal Highway Administrator Leads Talk on Freight Economy in St. Louis

Nadeau to highlight national impact of the bi-state metro region as a major freight hub 

ST. LOUIS – Federal Highway Administrator Gregory Nadeau was in the Gateway City today for the last in a year-long, nationwide series of 24 roundtables to discuss the freight economy. 

The “Beyond Traffic 2045 Roundtables on the Freight Economy” were a response to U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx’s “Beyond Traffic” report that lays out transportation challenges in the next 30 years, including an anticipated 45-percent increase in freight traffic.

DOT Fines Air Canada for Violating Rules Protecting Air Travelers with Disabilities.  The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) fined Air Canada $225,000 for violating the Air Carrier Access Act (ACAA) and the Department’s disability regulation by not adequately responding to complaints filed by passengers with disabilities on numerous occasions and by limiting acceptance of service animals to animals that have been trained by specific organizations and animals that are harnessed.
