Summary
The Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA) Paul S. Sarbanes Transit in Parks Program is authorized by 49 USC 5320. This is the final allocation of funds under this program. Approximately $12 million will be available for project awards. Eligible projects include capital and planning expenses for alternative transportation systems within or in the vicinity of a Federally-owned or managed park, refuge or recreational area. Alternative transportation includes public transportation as well as non-motorized facilities such as pedestrian and bicycle trails. The program has numerous goals, which include improving access and mobility to and within federal land units and reducing the impact of the transportation system on natural, cultural and historic resources.
Applications may be submitted by Federal Land Management Agencies, including but not limited to the National Park Service, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, USDA Forest Service, and the Bureau of Land Management, or by State, tribal or local governments with jurisdiction in the vicinity of an eligible area. We anticipate prioritizing projects that have independent utility and are not dependent upon future sources of funding for completion. Eligible Applicants
Applications may be submitted by Federal Land Management Agencies, including but not limited to the National Park Service, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, USDA Forest Service, and the Bureau of Land Management, or by State, tribal or local governments with jurisdiction in the vicinity of an eligible area. State, tribal and local governments must submit a letter of support from an eligible Federal land unit to be eligible for funding.

All potential applicants are advised to begin the Grants.gov registration process immediately in order to be able to meet the deadline.
